Paint not working

Hey all. So, I’ve been trying to paint the back of one of my aquariums and for some reason it doesn’t seem to want to take. It’s a glass aquarium. I’m using acrylic paint with a foam roller and it’s just odd that after two coats (it was dry to the touch) it looks like the tank wants nothing to do with it. I used to be a house painter for about 6 years so I know my way around paint. Anyone have any ideas? Glass was thoroughly cleaned and dry prior to application. Thanks.

I didnt have much luck with acrylic either. You can use spray paint or window tinting. The tinting is probably better cause you can peel it right off however I do believe it is a tad bit more expensive.

Thanks. I threw a third coat on before bed last night. Didn’t have a chance to check it out this morning. But I’ll keep that in mind.

I use Black laytex house paint same roller, maybe 3 or 4 coats I was happy, take a razor blade and windex and clean glass and try over, trial by error

I found you have to go thin and multiple layers. Don't worry about the coverage. Just get a coat on and when it's dry go again. 4 coats is what it took for me. Just used cheap acrylic craft paint in a tube from the hardware store

Simple and quick fix if you want a black background. I use a black large heavy duty construction garbage bag, tape it to 1 side, use my wife's blowdryer on high and slowly pull the rest of the bag to the other side. Bam!! Perfect

Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking I’ll have to do. Unfortunately I just bought the last two small bottles of the color I’m using. Hopefully two more coats gets it done. Thanks.

Thanks. I’m actually doing a very dark blue. Good idea though. On my 55 I just used black construction paper boards cut to size and taped. Not the greatest but I did it after already having fish in and there wasn’t much room to work behind the wall.

Well, I’m thinking it’ll just take more coats. I hope. I actually bought latex paint at first not really thinking about it. After a nice coat I had the same problem so I thought it was because I used latex. Scraped it all off and went again with the acrylic only to have the same problem. Made sure the glass was spotless and still having some problems. But it does look a little better after every coat. I think I’ll just keep going and hope for the best. Thanks.

I would love to spray it, but I’ve got other tanks running in there and I’ve got a young daughter in the house. It’s a condo so not a lot of room and don’t have anyone to help me carry it outdoors to do it. In the future I’ll probably go that route before bringing home. Thanks
