Pacu tank mates

Just recently set up my 90 gallon tank with one pacu one spotted catfish, and one pleco. The pacu is going into a 500 gallon tank eventually but right now everything is 3 to 4 inches and I would like to add a couple more fish for color and movement that will stay in the 90 gallon tank. Thinking some type of Oscar but what else?

Welcome to fishlore!
I wouldn't add anything else until you upgrade.

So nothing else I could put in there with it for six months to a year that is going to stay in the 90 gal. tank?

Pacus grow quickly, they'll need an upgrade soon......

Only one pacu. I keep seeing that everyone suggests schooling them but one pacu is all I will be able to handle eventually. I'm very aware of how fast and large they grow and I haven't even decided to stop at 500 gallons. I just want some movement in the tank.

I agree with Anders. Hold off on adding anything else. Pacu have the potential to reach 3 to 4 feet long.

I am going to try to get a shot of my spotted cat fish because I would like to know what he is and how big he is going to get. He's very elusive and I think he is absolutely beautiful.

I don't know what Kind of catfish this is. I wonder how big it's going to get and is it okay with my pacu?

That's a Synodontis sp. Maybe a featherfin catfish? If so, they get 8 inches.

Oh nice. He was tiny 4 months ago. Gets more detailed as it grows. Thanks

Sorry to disappoint but that's a silver dollar, not a pacu. They need to be in groups of 6+ (just like pacu) and grow to 6-7".

Real Pacu grow to 3ft or more. A tank big enough for 6 would be at least 1800 gallons.

If the op is upgrading to a 500gal I don't see why he/she couldn't add more fish that will stay behind in the 90gal when he/she upgrades. I can understand wanting more than 3 3" fish in a 90gal.

I don't think I'm selfish and I would do that as they grow and even consider selling some of the fish I grew out as they are generally worth more when bigger

Hampalong...I thought so! The guy argued with me. First didn't have the red belly, but I thought maybe not all Pacu's have that.
I had a silver dollar years ago but the key word is years. And when someone in a fish store is insisting what it is, I gave in. Probably because I was wanting one and the beginner size was perfect.
Soooooo....while my brain comes to a screeching halt about giant aquarium plans, now, I decide whether to keep it or not.
I think I'm going to keep it and start looking for potential tank mates and still keep my plans for my dream pacu and giant tank.
