Packaged Drinking Water for Top Up

Hi,

I am travelling for the next 6 days and don’t trust my parents with adding the right amount of Prime while topping up water.

If I tell them to use packaged drinking water to top up the aquarium, can they use the water without any water conditioner?

Also, last time when I was on travel they probably overfed the fish, and when I returned, I had a crashed tank.

So will my fish survive if they are not fed at all for 6 days? All fish are omnivores/Algae eaters like Guppy, White Clouds, Ottos, Corys

Leaving a tank alone for 6 days shouldn’t hurt a thing. Forget top ups and feeding, just make sure your parents turn the light on/off if you have live plants. I’ve left my tanks alone for a week or more and all was well.

Use a medicine dispenser to show them how much food to use or a specific spoon or cup if it's live food. Check that the water is completely natural so that if your parents need to top up the water, they can safely

Topping off with bottled water is fine if you really want to but probably not needed. I have get to see any with chlorine/chlorimine in it. The food thing too. The weekly pill dispenser boxes work well. Just put in what gets fed for each day and they can just dump it in. Even the light thing can be overcome with a cheap timer.

I really like the idea of you putting the daily feeding amounts in a pill dispenser. That is a great idea for someone who doesn’t maintain fish. If your bottled water is in question, test it yourself and make sure it is fish safe.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for all the replies.. I do have a timer for the lights as it is a planted tank with Co2 injection..

The idea of using the pill dispenser is a good one and I will try it out.

Thanks for all the replies..

Cheers!

Yep! The pill dispenser is a perfect method. I used this method for 4 tanks I had when I was on travel for a week. Each one had its own personal pill box. My friends who cared for my fish were grateful and I was not stressed out. haha

Just treat it in a 5 gallon bucket and let them top off out of that.
