Overstocking/Mixing cichlids

I have a 75 gallon tank with a fluval 407 and fx4. I currently have 1 yellow lab mbuna, 18 haps/peacocks, 1 scarlet Bruno and a goody sunshine Pleco. I have been working with a guy at my local store that breeds and raises cichlids, he helped me with all the fish.
My question…I just discovered blood parrots…I want one! Can I put him in with them? Would it be too much? My store has a full grown one, all my cichlids now are 2-4 inches. I could always move any out that have real issues if they come up and deal with them but want to know others thoughts and opinions. Please and thank you.

I would advise against mixing a parrot cichlid with your Africans. In general it is best to stick with only keeping Africans or only keeping American cichlids. They differ too much in terms of behavior, water parameters and diet.

It's likely the Africans would pick apart a Blood Parrot. Besides, when your group of 18 Peacocks & Haps reach maturity the 75 gal. tank will be very cramped.

Don't do it.

If you can move it when there are issues, then yeah can work. But also be prepared to find its carcass one day. But also be prepared for it to work perfectly fine.

Generally with mixing cichlids, anything is fine - whether you are mixing species from the same continent or otherwise, so long as their is not too big a difference in size, aggressiveness, and/or parameter requirements. That latter is actually very rare, most cichlids can thrive in a much wider pH/etc. range than that of their native habitats. As for size, aggressiveness, and just general behaviors, yeah like if you add a dovii to a mix, probably not gonna work out. Some other hyper-aggressive cichlids like flowerhorns can also be problematic.

Those are the considerations when mixing. Otherwise yeah, go ahead. No issues (aside from the typical cichlid stuff that applies regardless of whether one is mixing or keeping a single species).
