Our new Foster-Ike

We have fostered for our local humane society for awhile now and up until today I've only fostered cats. I went out today to sign adoption papers on our other foster cat Liquorish and make her ours for good!! So I was sweet talked into fostering another kitten. While I was getting our new foster cat I met Ike. Well Ike absolutely stole my heart and so he is now home with us. All of the kennels were full so he was in with the cats running around..lol. He is a AKC registered Irish Terrier that was taken from a puppy mill, he was getting ready to be sent to California to a guy who buys them from puppy mills then sells them for double. He is skinny and when they found him he had a low temp and was lethargic and had burn marks on him from who knows what. He's getting better but he's still skinny, I plan on changing that. He is the sweetest little thing and loves being in our home. We just brought him home a couple of hours ago and so far he's been to the park, to my moms for lunch and met some new friends there and lots of naps..lol. He had never felt grass under his feet before and was a little scared at first. He still prefers to poo and pee on concrete but with training I know we can change it. I'll be crate training him and working on basic commends. We go to a training course next week also. Soooo finally here is Ike!!. Sorry for the bad pics they were taken with my phone.

He is just a doll isn't he??...lol I just love him to death. He and my husband have made friends already. He stays by Jeff's side all the time and as you can see doesn't mind sleeping on him either..lol. they both took a nap together today. He is just so sweet and it breaks my heart to think what this little baby has seen, heard and felt in his life. It was so unreal to me to see him be "iffy" about grass. He's been on 4 walks today and is so stinking smart. He's never been on a leash before but he's already leashed trained. He didn't like it at first but he figured out pretty quick that leash meant fun so he's being a angel about it.

LOL that's what I told Jeff, he should take him to work with him but I dont' think the City would allow it..lol..that's ok he can hang out with me and the girls during the day and love on Jeff in the evenings. One "rule" I agreed to with Jeff is if he allowed me to foster dogs I wouldn't ask to adopt any so I have to make it HIS idea..lol..We'll see how it goes. Really though I love being a foster. I feel I can help more animals this way. I get to love them and spoil them and teach them to be a great dog. They are exposed to kids and cats and other dogs while learning all the commands and manners, All of which makes them HIGHLY adoptable, and that is the name of the game, giving these awesome animals the best possible shot at a life with a great family. I can only adopt so many animals but this way I can help LOTS. I just wish I could do it for more of them. Jeff and his buddies always say "Cescha, saving the world one animals at a time"..lol..and that is EXACTLY what I'm trying to do.

He's too cute! I LOVE the way you foster, too! Training, giving them new experiences, all of those things that make them highly adoptable are fabulous tools for their new homes as well.

Thanks Cescha for everything you do for the animals! You're an awesome person and for every animal you foster, that IS a life you save.

Fostering is an act of love. Thank you for all you do for all the lucky animals who come your way.

Ike is a doll... and the picture of him in your husband's lap should be framed... absolutely adorable. Could he feel any more secure and at ease?

It appears Ike has chosen his person. Sometimes dogs know these things long before we bipeds do. heehee

At the very least it would seem he will need a home where there is a man very interested in having a "bud".

He must be an emotionally resilient little fella. Looks as though he's fully able to bond... an especially good thing if you guys don't end up keeping him. That trusting, "I wanna sleep in your lap" thing is so endearing. Love the shape of his cute little "terror"er head.

Oh wow Cesch, he is just precious! You are doing such a good thing by fostering him. My parents adopted two husky sisters that were taken from a puppy mill, and I swear they are so thankful and love my parents even more for giving them a good home (I know that sounds crazy since the dogs can't talk, lol). Anyways, good luck with him. I hope your hubby comes around and decides he wants to keep him. He seems like such a doll!

Ike has found a FOREVER home. A very sweet lady was looking for a walking buddy. She has an acre and a half and it has a privacy fence around all of it so he'll have lots of space to run during outside play time. We talked on the phone for a good hour and I'm confident Ike has a FABULOUS home awaiting him. She will be doing the paperwork soon and I'll be taking Ike over to her house! How exciting for Mr. Ike to be getting his NEW FOREVER Home!!. he is a angel of a dog and deserves THE VERY BEST. It's such a relief to me when I KNOW that my babies are going to be placed in a good and loving home!!. I'm so excited for him and what his new life has to offer him. This is why I love fostering, it's so rewarding when it's all said and done. This woman is amazing too. She takes in fosters herself, but its' only when she finds one off the streets that needs help. She takes them in gets them vet care, wormed, tested for heart worms, neutered or spayed and then finds them a home, once they are healthy. She is just a fabulous woman and I couldn't be happier about Ike going there!!. Her latest one had been hit by a car a couple of blocks down and she took him in! So I know Ike is in good hands!! I'll be sharing pics of his progress!!. Sooo CHEERS to IKE

Yea for Ike and his new person! (And for you and your hubby for giving him such a loving foster home.) Sounds as though he will have a wonderful home with lots of room to run, play and develop well physically. His new owner is prepared for possible digging right?

I hope you tell her there are a "whole buncha fishy strangers" who are also interested in his progress. LOL

Actually it's very funny how this all worked out. She rescued a dog a year and a half ago and fell in love with him "rosco" and kept him. She took him to the vet and the vet just told her he was a terrier mix. Ike was posted on petfinder and she emailed me and said OMG I have this exact type of dog and never knew what he was until now and would love to have a buddy for him and me. She said she would do WHATEVER it took to get him, she researched the breed then called me..lol..She just loves the breed and since she's a foster herself she is COMPLETELY aware of all the drawbacks any dog may have. That was a big part of our conversation. Really I am just stoked because she is kinda another version of me..lol.

Update on Ike. The other lady ended up not being able to adopt him. Her mother passed away and she had to fly to TN and handle the estate.

But!!!! Ike went to his new home today. A vet and his wife adopted him! They treat their pets TRULY like family, they go everywhere with them and our spoiled. The husband is a VET and the wife is a dog trainer. What more could you ask for!! He really is in the perfect home! So Mr. Ike has a happy ending!
