Our Feathered Betta Teddy Bear

Tonight, we lost our oldest Betta, Teddy Bear. He was almost 3 and a new type of Betta. We won him at a Betta show auction in Florida 2 years ago and loved him dearly. Even though he was our biggest Betta, he was always the sweetest little guy and had his tank next to my computer desk. He loved to dance for affection and is now with Kairi, who was in a tank next to him until we lost her last summer. They had a great time flirting with each other. :-* He was definitely a lover, not a fighter. :-*

I am so sorry, Dave. Teddy Bear was gorgeous. I remember him from earlier posts, and also as the June Fish of the Month from Karen's 2009 . I'm so sorry he didn't make it until June. I know he was an old guy by betta standards, but it must be so hard for you. You knew and loved him and gave him a long, happy, healthy life.

Please extend my deep condolences to Stacy, too.

HI Dave,
I'm so sorry to hear that you lost Teddy Bear, he was such a great Betta boy!
I just lost my two oldest boys myself, Phoenix and Glory( Glory just this past week) I know just how you are feeling... But as we all know, you gave him a wonderful and happy home and there has to be some comfort in knowing that.

Thanks, I just wish I could've done more for him at the end. It's been the hardest losing Teddy, but we'll try to remember as he was during most of his time with us - he loved his Betta toys and when the stores get in some really nice indoor flowers, we'll bury him under his favorite toy - the cave he had from the day we brought him home.

CK - I'm so sorry you lost Phoenix & Glory. Both so beautiful and loved little Bettas.

Dave,
I am so sorry.. your Betta Teddy Bear was so Beautiful! I am thinking I may lose my King soon too.. He is Very old now and really looks like he is ancient.. I call him Yoda. He came to Pa with me from Arizona.. He has set backs where I think this is it and then he makes a comeback but I know the end is near. I placed a bigleaf silk plant in his tank for him so he can just lounge near the top as it is getting diffivult for him to keep moving...he is tired.
It is very difficult to loose them for sure, but you can take some comfort in knowing that your TeddyBear had a wonderful life with you.

Try floating some hamster tubing for him too, if you can get some.. he might like lounging in those and floating near the surface. They get pockets of air in them too (that's how I float them) so he could even get air that way.

It's tough and we always hold out hope for them, but they look at us sometimes and ask if it's ok to go. Teddy did the day we lost him and I told him it was ok if he did, as much as I loved him, I knew he was miserable.

Fish protector or a similiar product might help him be more comfortable and a turkey baster is a good way to replace water in a floating cup to keep it fresh.
