I’m first time builder and wondering about the fish I have after reading about them after I bought them.. I’ll list them all then let me know what you think.. 20 gallon tank! Fake plants and decor. All we got for food is flakes and blood worms. I realize after reading that quite a few are schooling fish and some like live plants.. since I only have a 20 gallon, should I bring back some to trade for more of another type to school? I don’t want nipping! I don’t want any problems!

3 GloFish Tetras
1 Long finned zebra danio
1 red eye tetra
1 serpae tetra
10 neon tetras
1 sunburst Mickey Mouse platy
1 Dalmatian lyretail molly
1 rubberlip pleco

The serpae tetra looks very ruffed up.
Otherwise:
Yes, it would be wise to decide for 1-2, maybe three species and make a total redo (inkluding substrate, plants and decorations) according to their needs.

I'd keep the pleco and the neons, up the numbers of serpae tetra to 6 and be done.

For the decorations: Easy live plants, real rocks, real driftwood, simple sand substrate.

Edit: Would you mind showing a picture of the whole tank?

Water quality is what keeps your fish healthy.

I hope its a very dwarf pleco, I think it might be a Rubberlip Pleco. They are interesting but create a lot of waste.

Otherwise, leave your stocking where it is and just remove any fish that give you problems.

You may need a plan to clean algae off your glass and decor, depending on your lighting brightness and duration. I use 7 hours per day with two T8 tubes.

I remove decor and use a paintbrush to paint on gluteraldehyde solution e.g. Easycarbo / Excel, leave for a bit (as long as convenient), rinse and return.

Flakes are good, don't overfeed to keep water quality up.

To maintain its existing bodyweight a Neon Tetra needs to eat half a flake a day. A small 8g goldfish needs 4.5 flakes per day.

Use the bloodworms as an occasional treat. In my experience they pollute the water more than flakes.

On my 20 gallon I do three 25% water changes a week and that keeps water quality up.

This means my fish stay healthy and my ornaments need the minimum of cleaning (every month). I rinse my filter media in aquarium water once a month too. That way it never cloggs and stops circulating the water.

Thanks from me, too. Redshark1 is right about the water quality. And looking again, the Pleco is a Rubberlip. They produce a lot of waste. If you want to keep him most of the other fish will have to go and redecoration would be even more necessary. Your choice, though. If you want ideas, just ask.
