Otocinclus stuck in sponge filter

SummerDay

Hi all,

I added a sponge filter to my daughter's oto tank and I discovered this morning that one of her otos seems stuck in there

I turned off the filter and removed the larger clear plastic tubing/collar as carefully as I could but it still hasn't budged. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I try removing the air line to free up more room for it to escape? My daughter is going to be heartbroken! It was one of the large females with eggs, too...

If you touch him he might wiggle out. Otherwise removing the airline tubing is a good idea

You should be able to take the bottom off the sponge filter and may be able to push the fish back out.

Thanks. Did that and she was able to swim out once the airline tubing was disconnected, but i think she'll be pretty stressed! Poor little thing I think I'll try packing the collar with trimmed pieces of airline tube to prevent it happening again.
Update:
I think the oto might be ok for the moment, but the stress won't be good for the poor little thing.
I have (hopefully) prevented the problem for the future by cutting pieces of airline tubing and stuffing them into the collar so there is no room for a fish to swim in. This also has the benefit of breaking up the bubbles.
