Otocinclus Diet and Repashy Soilent Green

Greetings,
Does anyone have experience with feeding Repashy Superfood Soilent Green Aufwuchs Gel?

I have about 6 Otocinclus and I am worried they may run out of Algae and stave. I have a well planted tank. Previously when I had Otis I was unsuccessful in getting them to eat anything. Tried blanched zucchini, spinach, Hikari algae wafers. Haven’t tried anything with this new batch yet.

Came across this Repashy Soilent Green product, and Aufwuch is part of Oto’s natural diet? Hence wondering if there is a better chance of success.

Aufwuchs are part of their diet. I tried but even with a large group I could never get them to feed on repashy. I suggest smearing some on a slice of cucumber or zuchinni?

Thanks! Will try that approach. Anything to keep these little ones alive.

You could try Soilent Green and Super Green. Super Green is a true herbivore/vegan version. I've seen people smear the gel onto driftwood or you could drop pieces in.

Thank you! Try mixing them or separate? Driftwood is a good idea. I was thinking of getting small round rocks and smearing the tops.

I just received soilent green and failed to realize there’s a lotta bug in it lol - being a huge oto fan - don’t do soilent (they are strictly vegetarian) and go with super green!

Edit: reading more up on the difference and it’s not as simple as that. They indeed are aufwuch eaters, which naturally will have more than algae and really “algae” isn’t the whole story - bio film + Protozoa etc. Gonna try both and see what happens! Perhaps will report back on how my 10 otos react to them : ).

I use soilent green in my tank, sometimes before the gel sets I’ll dip rocks in it to coat them and let them dry. Then drop them in

Update:
Everyone LOVES the soilent (ancistrus too) I read up more on what Aufwuchs really means, and yes, otos qualify! Dunno if it’s coincidental, but knowing this is a high quality food, their colors have darkened up over the last few days and I’m super happy!

Definitely encourage getting creative with the delivery like the above comment!

Ive the super green incoming as well... will do some comparisons and watch them for preference : ).

Full disclaimer, I don't have otos but I've always wanted to see if anyone had tried this with baby spinach: wash it, freeze it, then after it's frozen let it sit in the tank for at least two days? Remove by the end of the third day if it hasn't been touched. I prefer freezing, easier to handle and boiling/blanching often degrades the nutrients to some degree. Try to place it in an out of the way spot, and try to get it flat. I've often done it by dipping it in tank water once, then the stem + 1/4 leaf often sticks easily to the glass and is able to hold the rest of the leaf below the waterline.

Source: I have a mystery snail that will ignore spinach until it's been soaked for ~2 days! I've only had to the remove the leaf once by the third day, and it didn't melt in my hand/tweezers when I tried to pick it up. My tank isn't mature enough for otos but as soon as it is I'm definitely getting a school.
