I bought some otos from a petsmart, quarantined for 6 weeks and made sure all 5 were healthy and eating well with nice fat tummies. I placed them in my bigger display tank to take care of brown algae, which they completely ate all of, and they have been doing great. Today I did a water change, same as usual, and afterwards 3 were belly up and the 4th had a hard time for a little while but pulled through. Any ideas as to what happened? I made sure the temperature was about the same as the tank and used water conditioner. I did do a large water change because I cleaned the sump and tank both. Would a water change of ~50% or more be enough to stress them out and kill them off like that or is there another potential reason?

What were the water parameters when they were dying?
I never clean the tank on the day I do filter maintenance. Especially I stay away from disturbing the substrate where BB live too.

Might you have caused a minI cycle?
