Oto inactive

I have three otos living with a betta, ember tetras, and neons sharing a 12 gallon tank. All three of them just kinda stay in the same area and don't move versus in my other tank the two otos that live in there I regularly see them dart around and being very active. Both tanks are similar in water peramaters and temperature. Both tanks are in similar areas of the house so noise levels and such are the same I'm not sure why they are stagnant

If your tank is not exposed to any diseases, it should be fine... Can you test the water? Bring cup or water to Petco or Petsmart and they will test the water and give you the strip for free.. Just want to know since Oto’s like low nitrate.

Thanks,

Christiam

Same thing with our Chinese Algae Eater.. should be fine, but test the water to be sure.

Oh ok! Do you have picture? And when you say inactive, how long? Can you describe more?

Thanks,

Christian

They seem to stay on one side of the tank. I've had them for about 3 months and I thought it was normal. But my mother's 20gal has a pair of them and they are very active. So I've began to assume something must be wrong. My tap water is pre filterd in a carbon house filter and then the tank filter I'm using for the 12 gal that the inactive otos are in is filterd by a sunsun 304 (meant for a 30gal) all the other fish seem just fine. Also the peramaters on the water are near identical on both tanks

My 2 otos are inactive, they hang out in one spot for hours. Rarely I see them dart around but they are a generally inactive fish. Much more active at night IME

I had the same problem with mine. They only really came out at night to feed and just hid on plant leaves during the day. In the wild these fish swim in schools of thousands so are very social animals. I found doubling my number to six helped a lot and now they have become a lot more confident and active during the day. They simply are better fish in bigger groups.

Your not wrong at all but in my 20 gallon there's only 2 and they are happy as could be swimming about whereas my 12gallon I have 3 and they just sit there all day
