Congratulations! I didn't know how many I had at first either and was shocked when I went to move them and found twice as many as I had originally thought. Good luck with them!

Amazing isn't it? I adore otos. I'm hopeful there are more little ones than what I'm seeing but if not at least they've laid eggs once and will do so again.

Love the pictures of yours. It's neat to see the differences in size. I hope you'll continue to post pictures of them.

In case anyone cares, I did a waterchange tonight and counted all 5 adults and 8 of the 9 babies. Everyone's doing well. I got a cute photo of one of the adults right next to a baby. I'll have to upload it later when I locate my camera.

Here's a picture of two adult otos and one of the "babies". (actually there are at least 3 babies in the picture and a mystery snail)

Sweet! I think I found them all (the one on the right is pretty well camoflauged!)

They are getting much bigger. Almost half the size of the adults, by my reckoning. Guess they're teenagers now, eh?

Yes, I guess I should call them juveniles now, though I do have some that appear to be about a week or two behind the others that are still itty bitty. They are definitely hard to find sometimes. It's like a game of hide and seek...I sit in the desk chair and try to count them all. My adults are especially good hiders. I can never find more than three of those except during water changes. The other two are more timid (probably because of being in with the betta previously).

I find this amusing...I was doing my typical head count to try and see if I had lost any of the "babies" which is always tricky to do. I'd counted 8 last week and figured I'd lost one somewhere.

Yesterday I had removed this giant fake plant I had in there (put it in a bucket of water just to be sure there weren't any hiding or eggs) and did a head count today which is much easier to do with that plant gone and new live plants in its place. I kept counting and counting and reached 12 babies and I thought that's not right. So I counted again and had at least 11 babies/juveniles. SO I guess I've had some more born and never noticed it. Goodness, I better upgrade soon or I'm going to run out of space again!

Just yesterday I kept telling my husband that some of the babies looked really tiny compared to the others. He kept reassuring me they were probably just males compared to females. I guess I should have trusted my first instinct that I had more newbies in the tank.

I thought I'd post a few updated photos. Most of the ones pictured are close to one inch in length. I have a couple who are a bit longer than that and some that are less than half an inch. If these adults don't stop breeding I'm going to have to start selling or giving away soon!

I never planned on the fry, but it has been so fascinating to watch them grow up!

Wow they are really growing! And they've got great color and look very healthy. Well done! We'll have to start calling you the "otomom" (not to be confused with "Octomom")

I just realized some of my pictures on my last post aren't showing up, so I attached some more. These photos were taken before I redid the background (now black) and added more plants and rearranged a bit. In doing so I noticed I had lost an adult oto somewhere along the way and it appears some of the babies are missing too. My best estimate is that I have 4 adults and about 7 babies/juveniles. I've ordered some of the repashy solient green to use to help target feed a bit better. My concern is that the cory's might be getting most of the food before the otos do. According to the lady I'm purchasing from, she pours it onto a piece of driftwood while making it and then the otos feed from there. So, I'll give that a try when I get it in and see how they respond. I've seen my adults go into spawning mode in the last week or so but never saw any babies, so either they are great at hiding or dying off from lack of food or my honey gourami is getting a snack. Unfortunate, but such is life.
