Oscar Tank Mates 125 gallon

Hi, I am new to this site and I have a quick question about stocking options for my 125 gallon tank. I currently have a oscar about 10 inches in my 75 gallon which I would like to transfer to my new 125. I have a fluval FX6 hooked up to it and regulary do waterchanges about once a week. My local fish store said that 3 oscars total with proper water changes would work in my 125. I am curious if any of you guys had opinions on that or different options for tank mates as I dont want to over crowed or stress my fish out. Thank you guys for your help!

In my 125g I have 2 12"Oscars and a 13" L095. I would not recommend more than that as they get very territorial. Considering yours is already 10 inches, you may have a hard time with introducing anything else to him and certainly don't want to introduce something much smaller as he will try and eat it.

Any advice for introduction? I would like to add something with him i had a pleco with him at somepoint but i got rid of it due to it growing too much.

Put the new fish in the new tank before the oscar goes in and make sure it has hiding places. You could try another oscar, smaller, but not small enough to be eaten.

 

Yeah this is tough. Even though it’s a big tank it’s going to be the personality of your Oscar that will decide if you can add other fish.

 

Probably not a good idea to include another Cichlid. Maybe add a few young adult Red Hooks or another variety of large Silver Dollar species.
If a bottom feeder is in the plan, look at adult Y. Modesta Loaches or the Tiger Loach (Helodes). Adults of both species can handle themselves agsindt an Oscar. A rock or driftwood hardscape is required when keeping Loaches.
