Oscar+new Oscar Questions.

Hiya guys! I just had a quick question for ya! I have an Oscar that I’ve had since he was little thing a few months ago and I’d guess he is like 6 inches long now maybe a little less. I decided to try adding a Oscar to the tank with him for a friend. Well, I got the new one from petco he’s about 1 1/2 inches I’d guess? And honestly, my larger Oscar hasn’t even bothered with him, not chased him or anything. They eat together fine and have even swam around each other. The only thing new I’d guess is that my older Oscar (Red Oscar)hangs out to the left side of the tank now, and my new Oscar (Tiger Oscar btw) hangs out to the right side of the tank. Is this normal? Is it like a territory thing? And with how things have been going as I described (past week and a half) do you think everything will be alright in the long run? Thankyou Guys!

you're gonna need a 125g or more tank if you don't already have one.

Okay, I don’t mean to sound rude, but I was simply asking a question. I know I am going to need a 125, I’m going to be purchasing one within a few months. This forum seems to be the worst place to go to anymore for questions about oscars. They’re in a 75 at the moment, which they are fine in until they start getting larger.

Sorry. Didn't mean to upset you.

No, it’s nothing against you. It just gets upsetting you know? When every time you get on a site that is supposed to help, people all say the same thing (you need a 125) and 95% of the time the question is never answered. It’s nothing against you, but do you understand what I mean?

The tank is literally just being used as a grow out while I get all the necessities needed for a 125 and the tank itself.

I understand. It sounds like a territorial thing. They just need to get use to each other & establish who's the BOSS!!!! LOL!!! I have my 15 inch Oscar Big Boy in a 125. They are GREAT fish!!! Lots of fun!!!

I understand your frustration, but like 75% of the people on here do not know the nature and requirement of Oscars. I've owned 3 different pairs over the last 15years. I hate when people mistreat them. And they're one of the most mistreated pets in general. Sorry to come off the wrong way.

Oh I 100% agree. I’ve noticed that also with people having an Oscar in a 10 gallon tank.... smh. It’s crazy. I did huge research before even getting one, and I kne I’d had to get a bigger tank, just knew that this would be okay to grow out until then. Kinda the reason why I have insane filtration also, fx4, 406, and sponge filters. Haha
