I have a breeding pair of Oscar's new to the hobby and bought them on impulse now realize what I've gotten myself in for but up for the challenge they are pretty cool fish.During there mating rituals they do jaw locking, chasing ect, my Male tire one of his side fins it doesn't seem to be healing water parameters are good and I do water changes twice a week. There dorsal find and tail find have what look to be new growth with some orange like pigment with a milky edge is this new growth or fin rot and is that why his side fin wont heal

Welcome to Fishlore!

Oscars are pretty cool fish. How big is the tank?

That jaw locking isn’t always mating behaviour. It could signify territorial disputes too. Cichlids like to have decorations that define borders between their territories.

What are the exact parameters? “Good” doesn’t say much.

They’re so cute! I also see some goldfish in there, which prefer coldwater to the tropical water oscars live in.

Once you upgrade their tank (I recommend 120 gallons for the fish in there if you want long term success) you’ll find that oscars are lovely fish with great personalities. They can be peaceful when kept in optimum condition, belied by their huge size. I have a green terror and geophagus that both follow me around and never stop begging for food lol.

Here’s a tip: when upgrading the tank, transfer all of the current filter media to the new tank and some of the water. This will ensure that you don’t lose the cycle and the fish transition happily.

Word two face my female she will eat from my hand oscar he is still a little iffy but they are really cool that coloration on the edges of their dorsal find is that something to worry about it's not brown or black just whitish with a hint of orange.

At least your cichlids will hand feed! Mine are terrified of my hand being in the tank!

Pretty sure that’s just the natural colour of oscars at play.
