Oscar and an inherited angelfish

I just got a new-to-me tank from my parents. It's 75 gallon and came with a small yellow/off-white angelfish. I set the tank up with the angelfish and let it do it's thing for 3 days before adding my 4in Red Oscar using the bucket method. The oscar is now pouting in the corner...

I tested the nitrates/nitrites and it was 0. The temperature is sitting pretty at 80 and I've got 2 big filters running along with a UV filter thing(from my mom). I used white sand as the substrate, a couple big pieces of driftwood, a few live plants, a few fake plants and an air stone. The angelfish is swimming everywhere happily, but Oscar the grouch is laying on his side in the corner. He swims around when I'm not there, so is he just mad at me?

Do you know the ammonia level?

I'm not sure I'd keep the angel and the oscar in this size tank together. When the oscar gets bigger, he might not be so nice to the angelfish.

It was at close to 0, I'll try to test again when I get back home.
I may move the angel to the smaller tank, but right now they're not even noticing each other.

Sorry that happened. Is the tank cycled, as you don't have any nitrates? Welcome to the forum and glad you joined us. Alison

At the time, I thought I cycled it enough at 3 days. Buttttt I'm not sure. However my Oscar is doing fine. I do a 75% water change once a week now.

That is so heartbreaking!! I wish it didn't make you "laugh out loud". :-(

TexasDomer knows what she's talking about and had you taken her warning seriously, the angel would still be here :-( Poor fellow! Angels should never be kept with aggressive fish like Oscars. Regardless how small the Oscar is. So if you ever do choose to give your Oscar any tank mates again, make sure to research and get solid advice on what fish would be appropriate to keep with it so this doesn't happen again.

Great news that your Oscar has improved, I am very happy for you and your Oscar!! But I feel bad for the poor angel! Circle of life I guess.....

You should not ever have an Oscar with anything else unless you want that other fish to die. Your nitrates should be between 1-30.
Your tank is cycling

Awh I didn't mean it that way. Apparently if you're one of those people that laugh in awkward situations, you do it in every form. I meant it was more laughable that the Oscar apparently needed alone time.

The angelfish was a hand-me-down that came with the tank, so I wasn't quite as invested in it as I was my Oscar. I had every intention of moving the angel to my smaller tank once I got it cleaned and set back up, but they seemed to be getting along fine. I fed them at opposing ends of the tank, and there was plenty of room to hide and be away from each other. Had I noticed the Oscar picking or bullying the Angel I wouldn't have hesitated to transfer the little one.

I realized after I added both that the tank hadn't fully cycled, but I think it's under control right now.

**I don't plan on adding any tank mates. I would like to, but I think it will be better in the long run to let the Oscar fill out the tank..
