I have an oranda in a 40 gallon tank, water parameters are currently good according to API test kit. A week ago, I came home and the fish was swimming upside down and every time it went to the bottom to eat, it would be vertical and do a backflip and then right itself. My assumption was swim bladder issues so the first thing I tried was peas to make sure he is not constipated. He ate the peas and relieved himself so no constipation issues. For the last couple of days he is at the bottom in a corner leaning against the glass. I've also seen him laying on the bottom on his side a couple of times but he eventually makes into a corner. When I put some food next to him, he gets excited and looks like he is trying to swim but not having great success.
My question is, is this swim bladder and what are the possible solutions? I've read it could be bacterial but I am not sure how to tell whether I should use medication. Also I've seen some videos on using a syringe to pull air out but that seems extremely dangerous and not sure how effective it is. Any recommendations are welcome.
