Optimal Placement For Heater/filter?

I just started putting my first aquarium (10 gal) together, so I know it’s no masterpiece. I want to ask about the placement of my heater and filter, though.

If you look in the left corner of my tank you’ll see my filter and new heater (ignore the heater on the right, that one’s coming out soon). Are they okay there, or do you think I should place them on the opposite side of the tank so the little hideout doesn’t get too warm? I really don’t know much about this other than keeping the heater next to the filter so heat is distributed more evenly around the tank.

Also if you have any other suggestions for my tank feel free to bring them up! I’m new and everything is confusing, haha.

My Understanding is that ideally, the heater should not be right beside the filter. It would be better off beside on the right-hand side where your old heater is. The reason for this is this is so that the water current will move the heat around better preventing warmer spots and cold spots in the tank.

I have my HOB filter in the middle of my tank, with my heater placed horizontally under it.

Someone lemme know if there’s something more efficient!

Your statement makes absolutely no sense. The first part doesn't make sense. The 2nd part makes perfect sense.

OP, your set up is perfectly fine. It's pretty much ideal since the sponge filter will move the water from left to right....thus moving the warmer water from the heater to the right side of the tank. If you placed the heater on the right side, that area is pretty much a dead spot. Not too much water movement there and the warmer water will be stuck there forever (since your water moves from left to right).

Another thing you can do....put the heater horizontally by the bottom. It's what I do. Although heaters perform better vertically, putting it horizontally is OK as well with the Aqueon Pros. By putting it horizontally, you're heating up the center of the tank. Additionally, when it's time to do a water change, you don't have to unplug the heater as it will still be submerged.

That’s the effect I was hoping for. Thanks for filling me in! Also the horizontal trick is great. Never even thought of that, but I’m definitely gonna do it. Is there any chance the heater could scorch, harm my plant, or will it be alright?
