Hey! It has just become aware to me that I need to make some tweaks to my fish care. I know everyone has a different opinion, but I was wondering about your take on the items I'm looking to purchase off of amazon.

Heater

Question: I have a five-gallon betta tank. Should I get a 25w or 50w heater? I live in Tampa Florida and the coldest my air conditioning goes to is 71 degrees. During winter it may be 1-2 degrees lower than that.

Option 1 (The more expensive option; might as well pay more and get better quality): Hydor Submersible Glass Heater (Adjustable)
Four in a Half Stars
$20 (25w) $22 (50w)
https://www.amazon.com/Hydor-Submer...ter&qid=1624929462&s=pet-supplies&sr=1-3&th=1

Option 2 (Cheaper option): Freesea Submersible Heater (Adjustable)
Four Stars + More reviews by 500
$15 (25w) $16 (50w)

https://www.amazon.com/FREESEA-25-3...m+heater&qid=1624928941&s=pet-supplies&sr=1-4

Like all heaters, they both have reviews stating that their fish was fried.

Plant Supplement (Liquid)

Thrive

https://www.amazon.com/NilocG-Aquat...hild=1&keywords=thrive&qid=1624930560&sr=8-15

(I AM AWARE OF THE NITRATE SPIKE IT CAUSES)

Question: Any good protein supplement recommendations? I need one to add to my frozen food for when I feed it to my betta.

Thank you!

As far as heaters go, I would look for one with a titanium tube. I've had the glass ones crack on a couple of occasions.

I use these in my fry tanks. They're safe, and they keep the water temp at around 80 degrees, and they continue to heat up every time I need them. The only con is they're at a fixed temp, but they work well enough for my needs:

Not sure why you would need a supplement unless your non frozen food is seriously lacking in protein. Bloodworms or brine shrimp should have plenty themselves.

The supplement would be for frozen food! Sorry if it was misleading

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll look into it!

They're only 2.5 gal. (I use them for raising tiny endler fry), but the heaters may work well for you where you live.
