Open Gills On A Betta

Just got a female betta today, but noticed something about her gills.
They seem to expand very far from her body (sort of looks like she's constantly flaring every time). Her gills also seem to never actually close all the way and if looking at her from behind, you can see the inside of her body. I can also sometimes see air come out from her gills.

Welcome!
Is her poop white? It could be gill flukes. I'm thinking it could've been the stress of a changing environment (constant flaring) but I'm not sure.

Also, please don't post your question twice, it just makes more work for the mods

Sorry! Thought that I might have been able to delete one of them until I realized there was no option to do that

And her poop is the normal orangy/brown color.

That's fine

Hmm. This is strange. Are the gill plates red? It could be ammonia poisoning.

Ive be called on here but maybe can help. Some times bettas flare to much causing their gill to get stuck open. Ive heard and seen this case before. Can we see a photo? Does she flare alot? Is she aggressive?

From what I see, I think it might be red.
The second and third pic is what she looks like whenever I see her from behind every time she breathes.

When I got her, she was in a community tank with other guppies and maybe 3 other female bettas. I didn't see any purposeful flaring at any of her tank mates and she didn't appear aggressive in the tank.

It looks like there are still nitrogen bubbles (from the tap) on the sides of the tank. This means that the tank was filled up recently, which means, most likely, it is not cycled. If it is not cycled that means that your fish is almost definitely suffering from ammonia burns.

Get the API master test kit (if you haven't already) and the API GH & KH test kit. Commence water changes of around 30% every 2-3 days.

Was a temporary holding to take the pictures. I had some new water that was conditioned and also added some of the tanks water.

I see. I still think it may be ammonia poisoning.

Tank size?
Ammonia?
Nitrite?
Nitrate?
pH? (less important)
