Well I have a 55 gallon tank with white rocks as substrate and I need a plan...

I would like to put a large long piece of driftwood in the tank but planting around it is not an option because I want cichlids in the tank. Any ideas you may have feel free to throw some pictures in also. I just want to make the best environment for my fish...

Red Tail Shark
Tiger Barbs (8-12)

Possible cichlids:
Red Devil
Electric Yellow
Blood Parrot
Convicts

Suggestions?

Convicts would get too aggressive at breeding time. The red devil and parrots would cause your tank to be overstocked. The yellow labs would be good tank mates. They would be able to hold their own against your RTS and tiger barbs.

why don't you just do a mbuna tank? there sweet! they need lots of rock for territory

get 4 or 5 yellow labs, 4 or 5 orange zebras/or cobalt blue zebras, 4 or 5 rusties.

I love mine!! you need to over stock to spread out aggression make sure you have lots of filtration

just an idea

I have 7 Tiger Barbs, too, they are fun to watch. But my other fish are 3 Kissing Gourami, Three Dot
Gourami, 2 Plecostomus, 3 African Featherfin Catfish. these are all classified as semi-aggressive and appear to be getting along well.
I have attached a picture of my aquarium

James... I'm only going to do single cichlids... I have a tank full of convict babies right now that I'm anxiously waiting to take them to the LFS... Yellow labs are nice maybe I will do a single lab...

Nitro... Could I mix a Red Tail Shark and Tiger Barbs with mbuna? I'm almost just trying to find cichlids that I could add with a Red Tail Shark and Tiger Barbs you know?

Nuc... Your tank is nice very nice... I noticed you have a 75 gallon so I don't think I could do kissing gourami especially with a Red Tail Shark... As stated above I'm kinda looking for semi-aggressive fish to mix with a Red Tail Shark and Tiger Barbs... Thanks again for the pics...

Thanks for the replies everyone...

mbuna like being with only other mbuna I have gotten away with keeping blood parrots with them but... I don't think I would try

one of my hard headed buddies has a 55 gallon with a red tailed shark and a really cool blue zebra with other non aggressive fish and he always asks me why his fish die and I tell him his fish are not compatible and he never listens. (I'm not saying you don't know about fish by any means)

but I do see where you are coming from. but long answer short I wouldn't try it, not even just a single yellow lab they like groups of them to spread out there aggression towards the weaker fish of the group.

as for the other fish you have on your list I have never kept them and don't known enough about them to know there behavior to give you info on them. but my best bet would be the blood parrot to keep with the red tailed shark and tiger barbs

Yeah I understand... Some cichlids like higher temperature... The red tail will not do well in hard water at all... I'm searching for tank mates with the same parameters as the Red Tail of coarse just don't know if any cichlids would fit that category... Blood parrot?

Thanks...

you could just get more tiger barbs and maybe some tin foil barbs. the blood parrot would be my best bet but I'm still not sure
