Oops...impulse Buy!

Trust me.. the little guy is worth it! He is absolutely stunning, and I can already tell
he has a feisty personality. Poor thing is stressed, but constantly swimming around, flaring, and displaying his fins.

Here’s the catch. I’m currently on vacation. After doing some quick research, I found out I can in fact bring him through TSA! So this little fellow is gonna be put in a tub until the 25th, where he’ll then get his own 10 gallon at home. My grandpa keeps saltwater fish here, so luckily I have some Prime in hand. I grabbed some pellets on the way out. Bad pics but I’ll get some better ones!

Any name suggestions?

Yeah I can see the dilemma. That guy is probably the second coolest betta I've seen ha. I think you made the right choice though!

Yeah that makes sense! This is the first time I’ve seen this type irl, and there was also some long finned copper boys that were absolutely beautiful. I’ve been thinking about that too but I don’t feel like dealing with a transhipper and stuff.

Thanks for the article! Once in the tank, I’ll probably start training him to associate food with a certain sound and ring on the water just in case.

He is in his bucket now, there’s roughly 1 gallon of water. Grandpa had an airstone, so I threw that in there. I’m a tad worried about it being too strong, but he seems to be doing fine. Fella gets to hang out in the bathroom so the cat doesn’t get curious

I’m also slightly worried about him jumping. I was thinking about poking a ton of holes in some saran wrap?

I contacted TSA’s official twitter account, and the they reaffirmed that I could bring him in more than 3.4 ounces in a closed container. I’m screenshooting just in case I’m given any trouble.

3 ounces of water is super small, do you have a container that will work for that? Are you going to try to get him more water once you get through TSA?

Small case of miscommunication here, he will have more than that! He is in one gal atm, will return into his cup from the store for plane trip, then go into my 10 gal.

I’m going to start a thread for my tanks when I get back home, I’ll be going to the LFS also start some planting on the 26th.

I meant with TSA, if you can only have 3 ounces that's a REALLY small amount of water for a fish while you travel. I'd imagine the cup is probably closer to 10-16 ounces. I just wouldn't want you to show up and have too much water, you'll likely need to find a smaller cup so the water is higher. Once you get through security you can always add more water. Just bring a tiny bottle of water conditioner.

Fish are exempt! Perhaps I’ll bring some water conditioner with me though, just in case. I think you may have misread my post about this or I really just screwed up the wording aha.

Oh yeah but Anduin is not a dragon. He is now the King. It's a good name though.

 

Anduin is also a massive river from LOTR. That's what I thought the reference was, lol. It's the river they take after they leave Khazad-dum/Moria. It has the giant statues (the Argonath)...right at the end of Fellowship the movie.

As for the little guy himself, he’ll be in his 10 gallon at home tomorrow but is still doing alright in the bucket with an airstone.

 

Little guy made it through TSA with absolutely no problems! A really nice lady took him through the side so he wouldn’t have to go through any machines. Just the plane trip left, so he’s in a small box with with plastic bags stuffed around him to minimize sloshing. A bit of water has splashed out the top already, but it’ll be fine once I’m sitting down. 1 hour until my flight
