One fish dead during TSS cycle

I'm on day 12 of initiating a TSS cycle and one of my four mollies that I started with is dead. This specific fish didnt look good from the day it came home. How worried should I be? Should I just go ahead and do a water change tomorrow?

I can test the other parameters in a minute, just ran a quick ammonia test and it was zero.

Ok, my water parameters are:

Ammonia: 0 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: 5 ppm

Looks good. I would say just wait until at least day 14 before doing a water change.

Ok, that will be in two days. Should I replace the molly now to keep the bioload consistent?

Since you have 0ppm ammonia and 0ppm nitrite your tank is basically cycled, so I would say you could replace the mollie now.

Thanks. So just to check, once day 14 comes I should do a 50% water change and then I can slowly begin to add more species of fish?

That would be fine.

I put this in my other thread posted today, but should I siphon off some tank water to keep the filter media wet during the water change?

You don't need to take the filter out when doing a water change.. Alison
