One Drain Line/2 Drain Holes

I hope this question doesn't seem too dumb, but we're still going through the newbie phase. We have an Eshopps ADV-200 sump/refugium that just arrived today. Our tank has one internal Megaflow overflow. It is off center in the back of the tank with 2 holes drilled in the bottom of the tank, one 1" hole for the drain, one 3/4" hole for the return. The new sump has two Drain holes. Should we just not put anything in one of the holes, or use a 1" PVC Y fitting to run the one Drain line to both holes? Also, we have a Quiet One 4000 pump, which has a 1" MPT fitting for the outflow. Can I put a regular 1" threaded to 3/4" slip PVC fitting on this to plumb from the pump to the tank? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Does anyone just leave the 2nd drain intake open on their sump? Surely someone else has some experience with this? Thanks.

Hi,
Without researching your sump, it's hard to say what to do (if I get time, I'll do some research)

Sounds like one is maybe the 'emergency' overflow, in a 3 pipe system. It's not an uncommon setup, and designed to help reduce the risk of overflow should the primary drain get blocked. I remember seeing the setup when I was designing my system, but thought it un-necessary at the time.

While I research, maybe try and youtube your setup, there is most likely a video showing how it works. From memory, the second drain (in the tank) sits a little higher than the standard drain. DIY Fishkeeper has a few videos on the setup, as do other channels... But sounds like it's designed as the emergency.

Thanks! I haven't been able to find any videos on the 200 so far, only the 100, which only has one drain hole. But since both holes go to the same chamber, I'm guessing it's for an emergency overflow or for tanks with 2 overflow boxes. I ended up just leaving it open and it's working so far. Thanks again.

Hi, just a follow up....

Research "Bean Overflows" (I finally remembered what they're called )

Pretty sure that's what you'll have

EDIT: Try this link for an overview of drainage systems Common Aquarium Overflows - Durso, Herbie and Bean Setups | gmacreef
