One arrived DOA, contacted company, have not heard anything yet, but the rest are alive.

Can I put prazipro in to make sure anything they may have come in with dies. No quarantine necessary as this tank was empty waiting for their arrival.

Does the dead one look ill at all, anything pop out, or just didn't make the trip well?

I put 4 pond snails in the tank for them to eat. They were too busy surfing the back wall of the tank and didn't notice me drop them in. They are so tiny. So adorable. I am going to wait, take a nap, try and feed them frozen blood worms later on.

Congrats on the new puffers! Are they Pea Puffers (dwarf puffers) or babies of another species? Cory the puffer expert, suggests all new puffers be treated with API General Cure, API E.M. Erythromycin, and Ich X. Puffers are apparently very prone to parasites, as many of them are wild caught, and this trifecta of meds is his recommendation for general deworming of all new puffers, as well as other new fish. I have adopted this method, and it works for me. I believe Bearwithfish also uses this method with his new arrivals.

ugh, do not have any of those, well pretty sure I have General Cure. I will have to get some. Thanks. I guess I will put some General Cure in in the meantime.

Oh forgot, they are pea puffers. Can I use PraziPro and General Cure now. Will that affect BB? I know PraziPro does not. Not sure about General Cure.

Yes! Treat for parasites no matter what! And honestly I would treat every few months for parasites if you feed live foods. Puffers don’t always ship the best so as long as the others don’t show symptoms he probably was just a victI'm of shipping stresses.

Congrats on your new puffers! Keep us updated with their antics

That is mostly for wild-caught puffers like the congo and mbu, but it would make "doubly sure" even for peas that they're not carrying anything. The deceased baby looks healthy to me--sometimes the stress of shipping is too much, or puffers can attack each other in close confinement.

And OMG THEY ARE SO CUTE!! *squeeeeee*

They emailed me about the poor little guy who didn't make it. They wanted a picture, said they would refund the cost of him, or I could have a new one shipped but I have to pay shipping. not worth it for 1 fish to pay 39.00.

I put Prazipro in. Half a teaspoon like directions said. Gonna research if I can use general Cure too and put that in later.

If I'm not mistaken, PraziPro and General Cure both treat the same things.

The active ingredient in PraziPro is one of two active ingredients in General Cure. General Cure treats everything PraziPro treats, and more.

Prazipro has praziquantel, and the other has metronidazole and praziuquantel. So, yeah, pretty much does the same thing.

PraziPro apparently has a higher concentration of praziquantel, which is a much more gentle med than metronidazole. So personally, I don't think I'd use both.

Well for right now, I just did the Prazipro. They are stressed from the trip, I am going to turn their light off and let them rest, and get some myself.

My brand new heater is not working right. I have it to 82 and digital thermometer says it is only 77.5. Gotta get that temp up a bit. I kept turning it on and off though today to put in the new canister filter so I am going t let it sit for a bit.

So my impressions so far on these adorable fish:

All they are seeming to do is surf the glass.

I bought a driftwood piece covered in moss from somebody here and they love it love it love it, they hide in it, go in and out of it, etc.

I put frozen blood worms in a cone after defrosting it in tank water, they didn't touch it, so moved the cone thing to where they seemed to be hanging out, they still didn't touch it. Then moved it lower in the tank, still didn't touch it. Then, I poured it out into the tank, still didn't try to catch them or touch them.

Saw one eat a pest snail. Too cute. So, threw a few more in there. There were 4 initially. Threw in 6 more. I do not want an explosion of these things in the tank so hopefully they eat them just as quick as I put them in there.

They are afraid of me. I really hope that changes. I go near the tank they take off. Again, really hope that changes because that is a bit disappointing to me. I am so involved with my fish. My tropical fish all come to the top of the tank when I open the lid to greet me, except the glofish, and the cory's, sometimes one or 2 cory's come, never the glofish.

Had to order a new heater, cannot get it where I want it. Ordered another new one for pest snail tank too because that one is registering 83 degrees. I have it on 75 degrees.

Because the puffers are so small, cannot really make out their adorable features yet. Hope the grow some.

Cannot really get any good pictures yet because they don't really hang out in 1 spot for too long and seem to be in the back of the tank behind the driftwood a lot.

This sounds like normal new puffer behavior to me I remember the first batch I got took almost a week to eat anything for me so the fact that you already have them eating snails is a great sign.

They will almost certainly stop the glass surfing once they get a little more used to their home. These fish are super intelligent and as such they sometimes take a little while to get comfortable in new surroundings. They will probably become you’re most interactive fish - just be patient with them as they learn to trust you

Update a few days later. I love these guys. Anyway to tell what sex they are this young? Anywho, still no luck with blood worms. I had them in the cone, saw one go into the cone and stay in there for a bit, but do not think he ate any. They are eating primarily snails, but I find the Ramshorns a bit too big yet, and they seem to get away.

I am finding a bit of bullying with one of them, chasing the others from the snails, or at least that is what it looks like to me. They are all eating though. They have plenty of hiding spots so not worried about it at this point.

They do not scatter that much when my hands come near the tank so I guess they are learning with my hands comes food.

Having difficulties deciding how much to feed. Seems their whole day is stalking stuff to eat, so I feel I always have to put more snails in.

I tried flakes, no go. I have to find my freeze dried shrimp see if they eat that, but probably not.

They are so cute. I call them my little murderers, LOL.

My pea puffers tend to not pay any attention to snails when I only put 3 or 4 in.... I have to put at least 10 in the tank, then the puffers go on a killing spree. But when I put 5 or less in the tank, they go largely unnoticed. Don't be worried about the size. These guys will take down a snail three times their size, no problem.

I've never used a feeding cone for my puffers. They tend to be more attracted to things that sink in the water. Flake food, freeze dried food, pellets, etc... no go. They have no interest in food that floats. It needs to sink, or suspend in the water column. I've found frozen brine shrimp to be a good food for my puffers, as they suspend and float around in different levels of the water column. Frozen thawed bloodworms tend to grab the puffers attention as it sinks, and they can't resist. For some reason, even though my puffers are absolutely fine eating bloodworms off of the substrate, if I drop sinking pellets into the tank, they have no interest. I've basically come to the conclusion that my puffers can only eat frozen bloodworms, frozen brine shrimp, and live snails.
