OMG! My ping pong ( Mystery Snail ) sized girl, GIGANTOR just laid another egg clutch!!!! This clutch is half the size of her last one ( the last one she had in mid July )

Hopefully, we will have more snails - last clutch was over an inch long and we only ended up ( so far ) with maybe 1 live snail. All the others have been eaten by the barbs...

No wonder she has been surfing around so much lately!!!

Um when you say, "touch" do you mean Junne-don't-get-the-scrub-pad-too-close-to-the-clutch-or-you-will-knock-it-in-to-the-water touch? Lesson learned!!! AND I hope to never have to deal with putting it on a styrofoam boat only to be knocked over in to the water repeatedly.... Can you say, EGADS!

I doubt it but now I know that I can move them after they are born.... I'm thinking of getting the quarantine tank set up but I don't think there will be enough snail bioload to keep it cycled.... Still thinking this one through.... I may get some nerites to put in there and then when the babies are big enough, I can get rid of them or put them in the main tank...
Here's a picture of Gigantor just 2 days ago. She ate ALL of it up herself!!! She was on this 2 inch piece of ZucchinI for 2 days!

What I meant to say was, I don't think the snails ( babies ) will have enough bioload to keep the cycle running. I have established media to start the tank off with but I am afraid it will die off if I don't keep the cycle fed. That's why I was thinking of getting a few Nerites to put in the tank with the babies until the babies get big enough for me to sell/give away, etc

love the pleco what type is he?

Thank you! Its a baby Bristlenose - it was just little bigger than a fry when I got it 2 months ago.. Still pretty tiny....

Go for it and the nerites can then go to work on your diatoms they are useful little snails

Well there won't be any diatoms in my 5 gallon quarantine but I sure want them to work on my 36 gallon. It needs a good cleaning!
I am looking to get some tomorrow at the lfs

So question here: Does the eggclutch need to be squirted every day ( or 2 times per day)
How did they do this in the wild?
Just wondering if its at all necessary - its kinda hidden and out of the way...

They hatch faster if they are kept damp. In the wild they are laid near very humid places or near places where water gets splashed a lot. Your girl should have laid them in a place where they stay some what damp. You mentioned something about them being near your HOB. If you take a look tomorrow morning the eggs should still be dampish. If not you may want to lower your water level so the eggs get splashed some. If you don't want to do that I'd just use an eyedropper or cup to pour water over them a couple times a day. That or you can take the egg clutch off, put it on a damp paper towel, and seal it inside a ziplock bag and put it near heat. The bag should fill up with condensation which will keep the eggs dry. I did this a couple times and floated it in my tank.

Thanks - they look close to the top of the tank where the condensation accumulates - I will lower the water so that there's more splashing going on. I've already used the "fish only" baster and gave them a squirt twice today. Just hard to reach...
I AM now thinking that when it gets closer to the time they will hatch, moving them in to my 5 gallon tank ( not running right now but I can use seeded material to fire it up ) and put Gigantor in there with the babies. I am also planning on getting some Nerite snails tomorrow. 2 things come to mind about the 5 gallon tank - one, my barbs will not eat the baby snails this time!!!
Okay, thanks for the advice again!

My Apple Snail (looks to be about the same size as yours) was responsible for 5 large clutches of eggs (one was huge - covered much of the light fixture) in my 12 gal Edge. Two clutches hatched and I "got rid" of the other 3 ... had about 150+/- little ones ... pulled 10 for my 36 gal bow front to help "treat" an algae build up and have been slowly "relocating" many of the others over the last couple of weeks ... all those snails have caused an overload for the Edge's filter and I have had ammonia readings for the first time in 4 months (no nitrItes though) ... gonna keep pulling 'em till I can get the reading right ...

Wow that's a lot of snails! Gigantors first clutch had probably 50 or so snails but my barbs ate most of them. There are probably only 2 or 3 left out of that bunch.
Hoping to get more this time.
This clutch is half the size though
