I need some varity in my cichlids foods and I was browsing petsmart and saw omega one flakes for cichlids, as I was looking for foods that sink rather than float, then I saw omega one pellets that sink, what should I get?

Omega 1 is a respected brand and my fish love their flakes. Cannot attest to cichlid food specifically though.

You shouldn't be feeding cichlids flakes. They need pellets or sticks....something substantial.

even angelfish?

Yes. Because of their eating habits - they make a mess of flakes.

I feed mine a combination of flakes and pellets, they seem to do ok, the rainbows and kribs all have a lot of color. Only do the flakes because I worry the pellets sink too fast for the tetras to get what they need ( they won't eat off bottom like the rest do). I should also point out that these are my first cichlids and they are still young... But so far they eat everything I put in there.

hmmm mine eats flakes all the time. I feed minI pellets too....but I have to feed flakes to the small tetras...they spit out the pellets mostly. that angel is very fond of all the flakes. but he doesn't seem messy.

Is it still small? I never said that they wouldn't eat them....just that cichlids in general like to chew their food, and flakes quickly break down and disintegrate.

All of my fish, except the african butterfly, eat pellets off the bottom. I float them for the butterfly.

I think he's medium size. but I don't feed only flakes....so he does get little pellets as well. the pellets are NLS, and the flakes are ocean nutrition. I did feed omega one, before I ran out. it was a good brand...

Do the pelets come in baby size? I don't think my kribs are ready for minI yet.

0.5 mm is good for the smallest of fish.

Yes that is pretty small. I was thinking of the cichlid gold comparison which is at least 2-3mm.

Looking at their website the smallest cichlid pellet is 2mm. Anyone have experience with this. My kribs are 2" and 3" at the moment and don't want any issues. Currently eating 1mm NLS pellets without issue.

EDIT: Just noticed they make a 1.5mm sinking cichlid pellet which would fit the bill nicely.

NLS has a 0.5, 1, 2, 3, and 6 mm pellet. Just another reason they're the best

Might end up going that route, I have NLS 1mm general formula. Might go with cichlid seeing as bigals doesn't have the sinking pellets. Will check a few other LFS tomorrow.

I noticed yesterday while opening my newly purchased, omega 1 super color cichlid pellets, my NLS is also thera-a.
