I bought a male bn pleco 3 days ago that was a trade in at the lfs and the lfs owner said he is probably 4-5 years old. i have tried cucumber and tonight I am trying pumpki. I have all so thrown in a algae wafer which my female bn loves. It seems to disitigrate into small pieces, is he eating it (he has a large mouth) or is it just dissolving in the water. If he is just settlimg in how long until he starts eating as I want to introduce him to my female in a week or so

Give it some time. Most BN's won't eat the first period. Leave some vegs.in overnight.

sometimes you may have to wait a day, while sometimes it may take up to a week or two. My first BN pleco took about 2 days to settle in and start eating while my 2nd and also current BN pleco started eating foods the day I got him. Both of them were/are male BN plecos.

He is swimming around the tank and sucking on the walls which have a lot of algae on them. Is this a good sign that he is becoming more comfortable

update. cam home to find him dead. About to do a water change. i feel really annoyed at makeing such a silly mistake of not checking the water qualiTy more often as this morning I checked ammonia and it was reading 0.25. I put prime in the tank but the stress of being moved and the ammonia must have got to him

The guppies that were in the tank look great and are still swimming around like nothing

Today I may have found out a explanation for his death from my lfs. Where I live a lot of shops and breeders have had their bn plecos dying for no reason. They suspect that there is some sort of disease affecting them.
