here is an update first. my two male bettas both died, one from old age and the other from depression. I then stuck to keeping 2 ghost shrimp and 2 spotted corys in my 10 gallon tank. I moved out of my moms house and took my tank with me. then became weak when seeing a gorgeous half moon double tail male betta. he is unbeleivably gorgeous. however he refuses to come to the top of the tank and eat the food. he won't even go up to attack my finger. my other two bettas never had an issue with this. they instantly went to get the food.

how do I get him to take the food? ive tryed just letting a few float, leaving him alone, but he wouldnt even try. I tryed coaxing him to the top, that didnt work. I tryed to get him to follow my finger, didnt work. he hasnt eaten in a week and I'm starting to worry. can anyone please help me? ive never had a betta with this much stubbornness.

Your old bettas were used to you, and had grown fond of seeing you. I feed my bettas twice a day, 3 small pellets each feeding. Some of them will attack the pellets on the surface, then there's some that has to see the pellets falling to the bottom of the tank, and then there's those bettas that want to scavenge the bottom for food. Are you sure your betta's not eating, or could it be that he just doesn't attack the surface for food? Maybe he does not like the food that you feed? Trust me, there's picky eaters... I have two that are.

I have a betta that refused to eat for over a week. At my wit's end I went back to the lfs where I got him and asked what they fed the bettas. Frozen blood worms was the answer and he eats like a pig. Absolutely refuses anything else.
I worry a bit about such a one lane diet, but he eats it all every day and seems to be doing fine.

There could be something going on in your tank or water quality issues.

Maybe some high quality foods would do the trick, like the Frozen Blood worms mentioned above. You could also try live foods; be careful about where you get it from because it could have parasites that would affect even healthy fish.
