ok - would you eat this or not?

Here's the dilemma - I had half a tub left of old fashion sugar donuts. Okay - forget about the good/bad argument of eating that in general.

Well, I accidentally knocked it off my table onto the carpet, around the area my dogs sleep. I have picked the donuts all up, and blew/wipe them as clean as I could.

Ok - the question is would you still eat them?

Would you pass them off to your wife and kids? (without saying anything)

I would still eat it. We have 8 land animals (not including fish) in our house so I don't really care about when I drop food as much.

yeah as I'm thinking about it, you shouldn't really take advice from me. I've had serious food poisoning at least 4 times in my life already, sooo..... :;pirate

pirate is unrelated to the post. I just like pirates.

If the bacteria from my dogs was going to kill me, I'd be long dead by now. Two of them sleep with me for god's sake.

Besides, they're donuts. Why is this even a question? lol!

Well if I actually liked those I'd still eat them off the floor. As long as they didn't have any hair on them I'd be all about eating them.

Good afternoon,

I thought it was a 5 second rule!

I'd have to run to the store and buy some more, throwing out the ones on the floor. However, I would purchase Krispy Kreme, chocolate covered, cream filled! Yum

There was probably more bacteria growing on the donuts before you dropped them than on the carpet or possibly even the dogs, lol. There's some science behind this, that's why they make biological filter media out of little ceramic donuts.

There was a university study done to see where we are subjected to the most harmful bacteria and viruses and the worst place was... the handles of shopping carts, much worse than such things as toilet seats.

I would look at them for hair but yeah I would probably still eat them... Or take the suggestion of Krispy Kreme. Lemon filled...... OMG and its 40 miles to the nearest Krispy Kreme and its almost midnight... drool

Trust me, eat them. You be amazed at how many spiders and other bugs you eat each year as you sleep. Not to mention the acceptable amount of "Organic" material is allowed in processed foods, can foods, etc by the FDA.. extra proteins yum!

So I'd either

1) eat them
2) send them to me and I'll check if they're still good.

I don't know why every study compares things to how dirty toilets are!

Toilets have a lot less bacteria on them than you would expect. The bacteria may be in a higher ratio of really bad stuff to just bad stuff but there isn't all that many different types that live there so all these "more bacteria on this than a toilet" studies are pretty pointless in their conclusions.

I guess they just use that fact for the grossness factor.

P.s. Sorry if I am making very little sense I didn't get much sleep.

If they were the white powered raspberry filled it would be no question. But just plain powdered no go for me.

eat it, the food isn't particularly wet and a good amount of what contacted the floor is still ON the floor (powder).

more about the nature of what hit the floor than how long it hit it (source: Mythbusters). Would tell others eating the food what happened, but would opt not to tell them and eat all of the donuts in a gesture of self-sacrificial deliciousness.
