Ok to have two males and one female krib?

Hello everyone

Just looking for some advice here...

I have ;

115 litre tank
5 Rummies
1 pleco
1 zodiac loach

also 1 female krib.

I bought a male today to go with the female and got another krib free. Against my better judgment I got a second male.

Just wondering what you guys and gals think, if this will work or if two will gang up on 1....

Advice appreciated!

I wouldn't put two males with one female in any species I can think of, and especially not cichlid species like the Kribensis.

Welcome to Fishlore.

+ 1 to Eienna. Is it possible you can exchange the second male krib for a female? You'll save yourself a lot of headache and your fish will thank you.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

Yeah reckon it will be ok to take the second male back. I haven't let him into the tank yet so it shouldnt be a prob.

So you think two females and a male would work?

Or is it just easier to stick to a male and female...

With kribs, do not have more than 1 adult male and 1 adult female. They will almost always pair up. That's because female kribs always settle.

Make sure you have lots of caves for the kribs. The only problem with keeping them with a pleco is that they will fight over caves. But if the kribs don't have enough choices for caves, they will be even more aggressive and really crabby once they have eggs/fry.

Also prepare yourself for lots of fry, probably after 2-3 failed attempts. The lfs won't take them until they can sex them, usually around 5 months of age. So, get ready for some grow out tanks or a very exciting 30 gallon.

I can warn you that the rummies are going to be highly stressed by the kribs. I had both species in my 30 gallon and didn't know how stressed the rummies were until I brought all my kribs to the lfs to switch to something else. Once the kribs were removed, the other fish visibly relaxed. If you choose to keep your rummies, get another 5 of them. They require a large school as they are so shy.

What species of pleco do you have?

Yeah kribs need to be in pairs having an off balance tank will cause the one not picked by a female to really be picked on.

In a community tank, I would advise 1 pair of kribs per 30 gallons.

great! thanks so much guys! awesome advice ) will take this other male back to the store today, keeping it safe is the best idea

rummies have been in there in the past with kribs, so should be ok. How ever, great advice, will aI'm to add to their school (as soon as the wallet allows...expensive little buggers!)

have had a male in the past and yes, will imagine as per usual they will be mating like crazy!

have cave like areas so should be sweet...

never really focused on breedin em before...any guides you guys can link me to for breeding kribs? I bought an add on spawing area, but it always failed, all the babies seem to die...

I left mine in the community tank and they spawned just about every month. You don't have to do anything special. I always go by the "survival of the fittest" and "let nature take its course" mentality with my fish regarding spawning. They don't need me as a midwife. They just need a clean tank.
