So my mother wants a tank to go with the new office space being built in their house, and I am having a really hard time making a good looking tank with her requirements, so I thought this place could help.
She wants a tank like,

  • Less than 15 gallons
  • Has a waterfall feature
  • Can fit on a desk
  • Elegant
  • White sand
  • Has tall plants
  • 1 female betta
  • Small piece of driftwood
  • A plant attached to the driftwood
  • Some kind of colorful shrimp
  • A clam
  • Otocinclus catfish
  • Some floating plants
If you guys can make a good looking tank with this concept, I would really appreciate it.

A fake clam or a real clam?
Bettas may attack colorful shrimps.

White sand because the Freshwater Clams like fine substrate.

Tall bushy plants? Or like Vals?

She says she wants both.

Italian Vals are skinnier. Jungle Vals have thicker leaves. Both get crazy long. Maybe too long for a 15g unless you trim them. Hornwort is bushier and gets tall.

The Fluval flex tanks are pretty elegant looking.

Cherry Shrimp are good little colorful shrimp. There are a lot of cool nano shrimps.
I would add the shrimps and Ottos way later when the tank matures quite a bit, they eat a lot of biofilm and would starve in a new tank as they really dont eat much for food. Shrimps may eat some food but the Ottos generally do not.
