Ocellaris Clown & Bubble tip ?

I'm planning on buying a clown w/ its host anemone .

They sell clowns that are paired up with bubble tips at my LFS ( Thank god ! )

I'm going to be adding them to a 29 g. biocube.

Its going to have live rock & sand . Cycled first of course .

Few questions -

Would this work ? Could I add any other fish + will they get stung ?

Can bubble tips sting humans ?

Do I place it onto a piece of live rock ?

Will it need any special lighting ? ive read that bio - cube lighting would be good enough because the tank is not deeper than 24 inches.

ALSO - What do I feed the bubble tip ? Do I need to feed it ?

( Yes I already read the articals on o. clowns & bubble tips )

This is going to be my first salt water tank.

Great to see you are taking the leap into Saltwater Reef Tanks

You could add other fish with your clowns because most occys are very peaceful

Bubble tips can't sting humans... only other fish.

Place the anemone on any piece of rock and it will move around and find its perfect position

You need AT LEAST t5 lighting for anemones.

Dont worry about feeding the anemone.

Cheers,

Matt

You could place the anemone anywhere but it will move around until it makes it's own home. I'm not sure if an anemone can harm you but some corals can KILL you if you handle them.

Be careful if you do decide to get corals too because if the anemone searches for a new home it could sting your corals.

T5 is a type of fluorescent light fixture.

Thanks .

Soo I belive that my biocube would have 1 Coralife 10,000K 18Watt Compact Fluorescent lamp,
1 Coralife Actinic 18Watt Compact Fluorescent lamp,
and
2 3/4 Watt Lunar Blue, Moon Glow LED lights

Would these allow a BTA to grow ?

I have little knowledge of compact lighting. All I can say is that the lighting at the top of the tank would be much stronger than the lighting at the bottom. What this means is that while a light loving creature may not do well at the bottom of your tank, it can be perfectly happy at the mid to top of your tank.

Alright . Makes sense to me .

I'll get some live rock near the top middle & bottom so it can choose its' spot.

Thank you.

The stock lighting in the Biocube 29 is not sufficient for an anemone IMO. Also, I would not recommend adding an anemone to any tank under a year old. The long term survival rate of anemones in captivity is pretty poor, but adding a nem to a mature tank should at least help.

I forgot to add that as well. You should wait AT LEAST 6 months until adding an anemone.

My friend had an anemone under power compacts, but it was in a 55 gallon so the tank was deeper. It ended up dying. So I would say T5 also. You can get a good used one on CL. It wouldn't take a huge or expensive fixture for a tank that size. What does your LFS keep theirs under?

I feed my BTA every other day a piece of raw scallop. If it doesn't want it, it will simple not take it. But mine is always happy to take it. Don't depend on your clown fish to keep it feed.

Anemones will sting humans, but your skin is too thick for it to really do any harm. You won't even feel it. I do know a girl who gets rash from the stings, but that's seems to be very rare. A healthy anemone will stick to you when you touch it btw.

I figured that.
