Oak leaves with black spots on them?

I collected some oak leaves for tannins from my yard away from pesticides etc. I am boiling them right now and i saw some black spot looking things on them. They are covering some of the entire leaves. Is this normals? Are they still safe?

Yeah, that's normal. It's like when you cook a piece of zucchini and it turns a bit translucent. In the tank this will not be as visible anymore.

on a related topic. What do you think of DIY tannin extract? Boiling and using the water?

Guess what I make every week? I don't boil it though, I just brew it over with boiling water, let it sit and cool and in with the waterchange water.
