Nurser Tank For Guppy Fry?

HI everyone, I have a pregnant fancy guppy and I am expecting fry around August 9th or 10th. I am planning to set up a 10 gallon nurser tank, and I would like to put some live plants in said tank. Any suggestions? And this may be a stupid question, but can I put soil with grass planted in it at the bottom of the tank to serve as a substrate and plants?

Easy plants good for fry include java moss, hornwort, salvinia, java fern and duckweed.

Grass from the garden won't survive under water, you need aquatic plants.

You can get soil for aquariums but soil that you just dig up from outside probably won't be safe for the fish.

My experience has been that bare bottom is better for nursery tanks. You can clean them better without sucking up the fry. You can also keep a closer eye on fry’s growth and development. I usually float hornwort in mine to give them a place to hang out. Good luck!
