These are tiny little brown things on the front and back of the glass it’s slightly swaying in water flow I couldn’t get a better picture I’m not sure what it is

I’ve also got this in my large tank and not sure whether it is a sort of algae aswell but it seems to be grey

I wish I could see it. Questions. What are in the tanks? Fish plants etc. The grey stuff, is it on a plant? Are your tanks next to any windows? Are you testing your water? If so what are your parameters? Do you overfeed?
All I can think of at the moment. Oh, tell me more about the brown stuff?

So in the smaller tank with the brown things on the glass in the first 2 photos there’s no plants just about 40 cherry shrimp and 2 half beak fry that sit on top I did also just add a few sticks from a log I bought from the fish store

in the last photo as you can see the grey stuff is on my java Moss I have Anubis, java fern, hair grass a banana Lilly and some other plant, I have a few guppies a couple of neon tetras a BN pleco a golden rainbow shark some rummy noses a halfbeak some harlequins 2 kuhlI loaches and 2 paired killifish

I only test the water for ammonia as it’s too expensive to get all the test kits and that’s all fine in both tanks I have used flourish in the large tank once about 3-4 weeks ago, the brown stuff was also all through the bucket that I water logged he sticks and log in so I feel like they may have come from them?

Also my tanks aren’t next to windows but they do catch maybe 20-30 minutes of sunlight in the arvo which I can’t really do anything about but the java moss is at the end of my big tank that doesn’t quite get it

The sticks are most likely the cause of the brown stuff. Do you know what kind of wood it is?

The big tank needs a really good cleaning and you need to test for nitrates. The test kit seems expensive but it lasts a really long time. It’s well worth it. Make sure to clean the java moss. No fun I know.

Gypsy13 the brown stuff looks like brownish grey water stains on the glass.

The gray stuff looks like a gray propagated piece of java moss.

Gypsy13 The wood is a grape wood I think I’m not 100% sure tho and the big tank has just had a clean yesterday it’s spotless besides the java moss with those grey hairs on it, how can I clean the moss without sucking it up in my vacuum I’ve tried many times but all it does is clog up the vacuum and pull it all apart

emmysjjwhat do you mean by grey propagated piece of java moss I do know the meaning of propogate just not what you mean by it being that because it looks like a ball of grey hairs

I’m not sure what you’ve got your moss attached to. I’ve got handy little plastic rafts so mine is super easy. I just release the suction cup, take it out and give it a good shake down in dechlorinated water. BTW, the only time this happens to my moss is when I’m overfeeding and haven’t cleaned my filters. Sometimes I’m just not able to rinse them out as often as they need. So instead of 4 weeks, it may be 6. horrible I know.

Yeah ok it’s going to be tricky to get it out as I’ve actually attached it to this big fake rock cave thingy, but I’ll give it a crack and I’ll also give my filter media a clean it’s probably over due I’ve never had a canister filter so wasn’t sure how often to clean it it’s been maybe 6-8 weeks now
