Not Playing With Toys?

Hello,
I got a betta fish about a week ago and so far he hasn't played with any toys I bought him. He doesn't swim into the cave, lay on the leaf attached to the glass, or swim through one of those floating logs. All other behavior is normal: good appetite, relaxed fins, bright colors, etc. He seems to mostly like to stay near the glass facing the rest of the house. He's in a 3.5 gallon tank with a heater and gentle filter (minimal current). Tank also has live plants to avoid injuring his tail/fins.
Any ideas why he's not interested in toys? I read that bettas are curious and like playing with toys.
Thanks!

They might not always respond to them immediately, it took mine several days to weeks for them to realize how to lay on a leaf hammock, or even swim into a cave, but now they will do it.

Bettas don't always like to rest, sometimes they will take a quick break and lay on a broad leaf or decoration and then keep swimming, it sounds like yours is quite healthy and active.

attached the picture, nitrite is 0, ammonia is 0 and pH maybe 6.8 (I have a hard time reading it because the colors are so close...)

Yeah I did only add the log a couple days ago, so maybe he just hasn't gotten familiar enough with it. idk I guess I assumed they naturally get quickly attracted to something new haha.

UPDATE: literally while writing this he went into the log and chilled for like 5 seconds

Try placing the leaf hammock near a corner by the filter. Mine enjoys his corner in the back as well as my female she likes her in the corners of her tank and uses them quite a lot however my male didn’t like the hammock but I have plants that reach the top of the water that he prefers to rest in so he can “hide” and rest. Sometime it just takes a while for them to get used to the ornaments just give it time and he’ll come around!
