Not new but inexperienced

HI all! I have had aquariums for about 10 years now, but still consider myself pretty inexperienced. I have a 29 gal that I just pulled out of storage and set up. I do know about cycling. Filter is a Tetra Whisper EX 70, with air pump running also.
I currently have 3 green corys, and a bristlenose pleco that came from a tank that had to be moved.
I'm planning on adding 3-4 more Cory cats, an Angel fish, and a school of something. I was thinking of cardinal tetras since they are bigger than neons. I would really like a school of something bright colored.
Any other suggestions for an interesting school?

Thanks!

Definitely on the list if cards are not available. I was hoping to have a few ideas ahead of time. We have no lfs locally, so I have to order, or go about 2 1/2 hours away.

Ember tetras have always been a favorite of mine, but I'd worry about any of the small tetras becoming angel food.

What about rummynose tetras? They're a bit larger, suitable to this size tank, and TONS of fun to watch.

Definitely don't want to feed my livestock to the angels!

I would have the same concern with cardinal and neon tetras. Angelfish are known to eat them often enough.

Rummy nose Tetras are very beautiful fish. Last tank I had I had Harlequin Rasboras and now I have Hangel Rasboras. I really wish I had Rummy nose Tetras and next tank I do I will have them.

I will have to look more into rummynose. I've never really seen them.

What is the maximum # I can stock?

What are you going to have 6 cory cats, a bristlenose pleco, a angelfish (which will grow to big for the tank) and the rummynose tetras? I would say about 8 of them.

What would be a suitable alternative to the angel, for a centerpiece fish?

Maybe a gourami. Hopefully others can suggest something else.

While that's a great idea, its good to heavily research what gourami, its behaviors and compatibility with others.
But its worth looking into gouramis, they are pretty smart too.

Pearl Gouramis are larger, but are more peaceful than other gouramis.

I'm thinking of scrapping the "centerpiece" altogether. What do you think of this stocking scheme?

8-10 cardinal tetras
5 neon dwarf rainbows
5 bronze corydoras
1 bristlenose pleco

I'm just a little concerned that the rainbows are a little too pricey for me.

Thanks!

Changed my plan again! wally world is the ONLY place to buy fish (locally). I have 8 cherry barbs in QT right now. I'll decide later what to get to go with them. I'm still hoping the neon rainbows will still work.
