NorthFin Community - How to Feed?

I have the 0.5mm "slow sinking" pellets that I'm feeding to 12 cherry barbs in a tank that is 20 inches high. HOB filters turned off at feeding time. "Slow sinking" Ha!

These pellets float on the surface tension until they don't and then they sink like a stone - so fast that even when the barbs are all paying attention for feeding time and I put in small amounts at a time, some of the pellets are sinking too fast for the barbs to capture and end up on the bottom, feeding the snails. The barbs love them, when they capture them, and their mouths are easily able to handle the pellet size.

I feel like I have been conned. Any high quality alternatives?

Maybe try crushing them a bit, then feed. They will take longer to sink. :)

Thanks, I'll try that. It will make the "slow sinking" pellets sink slowlyo_O

Maybe make sure you have their attention and feed an even smaller amount at a time? My fish have been pavloved into knowing it's feeding time when they see a pipette tapping the water, for example.
It might actually be better for a fish to eat midwater than at the surface though.
