Non- Glittery Black Sand?

Is there any brands of black sand that's not glittery, or at least less glittery than others? I really want black sand in my aquarium but I'm not fond of glittery substrates. I was thinking black tahitian moon sand but I can't find much on how glittery it is. Does anyone have experience with this sand? Or does anyone know of black sand that has none or reduced glitter?

Thanks in advance!

I have National Geographic black sand, just from Petsmart. No glittering that I can tell, although I'm having a hard time imagining what you mean by "glittering" sand.

Have you dried the standard imaginitarium sand, doesn't seem to sparkle to me.

This is what I mean by glittering. The light catches on particles that aren't black and give it a glittery, or shiny if you prefer, appearance.

ah I see. Well most sand will look not sparkly in the bag, but once you add water and a bright light, it will be sparkly. Sorry, I don't know if that is avoidable, especially with black sand.

That's why I was wondering if there were brands that were less glittery than others. Maybe I'll just go for a dark tan or something then

Normally it wouldn't bother me if I planned on fish, but I want to stock shrimp so I'll be focusing on tiny critters on the sand so it will be far more noticeable. Thanks for your help though.

I know exactly what you mean. And yes the Tahitian Moon Sand is a bit glittery or has a sparkle to it. Your best bet would be Petco’s Imagitarium or National Geographic Black Sand which you can get at Petsmart.

I took this picture a year ago because I was torn on what I wanted to do.

Left- Tahitain Moon Sand
Middle- Flourite Black Sand
Right- Imagitarium Black Sand

Thanks. The imagitarium does look good, but it also looks a bit coarse. I plan on kuhli's so they need a fine substrate. I actually think I'm just going to go for caribsea's super naturals sunset gold sand.

The Sunset Gold is my personal favorite. I had that before I upgraded to my 75g. I regret switching it out. It’s super soft too.
