Nocturnal Fish.

Hey guys. I've been thinking and doing some research but I still needed to ask you guys. So the main question is 'are there any nocturnal fish for nano tanks(from 5 gallon to 20g) that you may know?'. I just want to know because there may be times that I sleep really late and I'd love to be able to watch at least some fish doing something rather than the tank technically being in sleep/rest mode where all the fishes would be sleeping/resting. Anything you may know would be useful. Thanks.

Yeah. Cories are about the only active catfish species that fit into that category.

Amano shrimp are often active at night and really fun to watch

Ok. So I guess shrimp is now added to the list but I'm mainly looking at fish.

Can it go in small tanks?

Asian stone catfish
Microglanis iheringi, make sure itnis the South American bumblebee, the asian species will get up to 8”. The SA catfish will grow up to 3”
In a 20 gallon you would be able to fit a tiny raphael catfish but they’ll grow up to 6 or more inches later, albeit slowly
Banjo catfish but they’ll be able to fit into a 20 gallon.
If you were to ask me, I would recommend a South American bumblebee cat, so adorbale, small, elusive, but looks like a miniature marbled version of its larger cousins. Just remember to be careful when medicating them since they are extremely sensitive to chemicals and also since this is how I lost my tiny little Mr. Mustache(yes that was his name)

Be careful if you get a south American bumblebee catfish if you have any small fish like neon tetras. my bumblebee will eat small minnows and neon tetras.

Glass catfish but too big for a 20 since you need 5-6 of them.

Just adjust your lighting for when your awake. Much better to watch a lighted a lighted tank then a dark one.

The tank won't be dark. It'll be using those leds with the blue light feature for night.
