No Popeye But Eye Bubble?

HI all! I’ve had my red devil for about 6 years now and have never had an issue with him. He lives in his own in a 100gal tank. As of Saturday he developed this after have a somewhat swollen eye for about 4 months now. When it first started to pop I did water change after change and treated for popeye but never changed. I just assumed it was going to be that way now because he was eating and acting totally normal. Well after a very small water change on Thursday, the following Saturday his eye became swollen and cloudy and had a bubble on it. He is acting normal and eating. I’m going to do a 50% water change and change my carbon to a more intense one that cleans inorganic and organic materials. I’ll post some pictures. I was wondering if it was gas bubble disease but he only has the one bubble on his eye. Any ideas?

Hey there, do you mind listing:
Ammonia
Nitrite
Nitrate
Temperature
Also, what do you normally feed? Sometimes in larger fish, excess fatty tissue builds up around the inside of the eye and forces it out. Surgery can remove it, but I'm not quite sure this is what we're dealing with.

Temp is 76°F, and I haven’t tested the other things today but have been normal since this started. I feed him about 40 pellets a day, I added about 10 more a day when I thought he had popeye months ago and just kept feeding him 20 in the morning and 20 at night because he always eat is so aggresivlely.

It should have been at the start of the thread, not sure how to get to it now, tbh.
We do need the nitrogen compound readings to rule out a lot of different things.
What brand and type of pellet do you feed? Do you only feed pellets?

I can get the readings later when I am home. I feed him API chiclid pellets and nothing else. He’s a picky eater and will only eat floating pellets. I’ve tried frozen bloodworms and flakes and peas but will take one bite and then spit the rest out.

Do you think it is gas bubble disease?

He’s very particular and used to his ways as I’ve changed nothing but his tank size in the past 6 years. I got him when he was a baby and now he’s huge and have gone through 4 tanks with him. Never had any problems till the last couple months and I’m just stumped because every time I test water things are just fine. I use API master test kit. I’m wondering if he is all of a sudden sensitive to if I have a heater or fan on in my room or when I add new water that may be a different temp, even though his tank temp seems to stay steady. He does have a 100 gal heater in there. He should be a hardy fish but he likes things his way and lets me know if he’s not happy. Sounds ridiculous but he’s spoiled.
