Is it ok to have zero nitrates in the water? I think it’s a good thing but I’m not sure. Since I’ve added fish 2 weeks ago nitrates haven’t gone above 3ppm. I did the first water change about 4 days ago and they tested at zero today.
Even while the tank was cycling they never got above somewhere between 10 and 20. I have had live plants in from the beginning.

Live plants use nitrates as nutrients so it is common to have low or no nitrates in a planted tank. It shouldn't be anything to worry about.

As long as you are seeing 0 ammonia and 0 nitrites having no nitrates isn't a problem. With low stocking, regular water changes and healthy plants I would think 0 or very low nitrates is very possible.
Thank you. Plants must be hungry. Nitrites and ammonia testing at zero as well
