Nitrogen cycle not started even after two months

I have set up my fish tank two months before. I have 5 tetras in it. I feed them once in a day and change 20% of water every week.

I am waiting for my nitrogen cycle to be finished to put more fishes(mine is 20 gallon). But even now ammonia is 1pm and nitrite and nitrate are zero.

I use liquid testing kit

Regards,
Ajith

Try checking your tap water and see if there is ammonia present in it from the tap. If there is, I suggest bottled water or a declorinator with ammonia neutralizer too.

I would do what the above posted said, test your tap water to make sure there are no traces of ammonia. Since your ammonia is at 1ppm right now I would do another water change to bring it down as much as possible so that it doesn't harm your fish.

Out of curiosity, in your cycle did you ever record any nitrites and/ or nitrates (i.e. higher than a 0 ppm value)?

If your tank is cycled, wouldnt any ammonia be converted into nitrite-nitrate?

Tell us what filter you have, and what filter media you use? Do you use supplemental bacteria? What water conditioner do you use? Sometimes it can take a long time to cycle, but are you looking to push it along a little faster?

I think it would be best to change out at least 1/2 the water, invest in some safe start and dose the tank with it. It's like there's a preservative or something that is not allowing bacteria growth. You might also see if you can get a "dirty" filter from a healthy tank to get this cycle going. Hard part of fish keeping, weird happens.

Hi, welcome to fishlore

Are you throwing out your filter materials ever?
Are you rinsing them in tap water or old tank water?

Do you bang nitrate bottle no. 2 on your hand or counter top for 30 seconds before using it? Try that if you haven't.
