Sounds like your tank has not cycled, maybe over stocked.

I have 2 black mollies and 2 ottos my ammonia is zero but my nitrite is still very high I put in bio-spira last wednesday and i did a water change yesterday. It is a 10 gallon tank. Not sure what else i should do the nitrite has been high for about 7 days now. Was lower without the bio-spira.

Jay, ALL aquatic plants help remove ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate to some extent, from the water. Those that grow faster will help remove these compounds faster, but it is usually those that grow faster that need good lighting, nutrient-rich substrate, and possibly fertilizers (many high-light plants also need CO2 injections to grow).

So if you do not have good lighting and nutrient-rich substrate, get low-light plants such as Anubias, Java Fern, Java Moss, and possibly Water Sprite.
