Nitrates + Nitrates Rising + Cloudy Water

so recently as the title states, iv'e noticed that my nitrites have raised to approx 0.5 and the nitrates approx 20 (I use test strips so unfortunately its not too accurate)

I also recently removed a goldfish from the tank
I also seem to have cloudy water, I did a water change two days ago and I do them twice a week around 25-30% (Sundays and Wednesdays)
So far in my tank I have
-Peppered Cory
-Small Borneo Sucker
-KhulI Loach
-3 Guppies (1 male 2 females)
Any reasons for the cloudy water and the rise of nitrates and nitrites?

Thanks!

How big is the tank?

How long has it been running?

Has it cycled?

It looks like a tank going through the cycling process, hence the 1ppm Nitrite and rising nitrates. The cloudy water could be a bloom of beneficial bacteria as they colonise the tank, this is commonly seen in newly established tanks. I'd do your water changes daily, you need to keep the nitrites under 1ppm

I started to cycle the tank on the 25th of December and also added a goldfish to help the cycle, then I added some fish around 5 days later. But yeah, ill do daily water changes for a week and see if anything happens

Good morning Mark, I just started up my tank on Dec 31, so kinda around the same time. And I too have been wondering how far along my fish-in cycle is. Question please and thanks,l (would really help me out because I haven't seen any cloudiness in my 72gal): before this spike in nitrites, what readings were you getting in week 1 and week 2? Did you use any components from an already established tank? Did you add beneficial bacteria as well?

Hey, so to start off, the readings before the spikes my reading were at basically zero, all of my components were new , straight from the box and I did not add any BB supplements or anything

Wow thanks! This week is my test week, because I've had under 0.25 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and 20 nitrates since last week. I'll check back in with you after the weekend, let you know how things go on my end and see the changes you experience as well. Not many ppl do a fish-in cycle, which is why I'm interested in your tank situation
