I would consider myself new to planted tanks.
So I typically have around 40ppm nitrates come water change day (Saturdays). I have a moderately planted tank (along with Pothos and Peace Lily roots dangling inside).
I use Easy Green toot tabs and also Flourish root tabs, and have been dosing twice a week with Easy Green liquid fert, and Excel.
I am wondering, should I stop dosing the liquid fert since my nitrates are on the high side? I do tend to feed my fish on the heavier side. I wouldn't say I overfeed, but definitely could be borderline.
Last week my nitrates were above 40. I did a back to back water change and it barely budged.
I plan to lighten on the feeding to help with this, but if I have enough nitrate in the tank, should I just dose some potassium and phosphate separately for now, and allow my plants to absorb what's already in there?
Just don't want my nitrates to get to dangerous levels before water change day.
Thanks for the insight!!
