nitrates are still at 5 after a week

    not a bad thing, i know. but i do weekly 50% water changes and it seems like since i put in purigen my nitrates don't go very high. again not a bad thing, but I'm doing a water change tomorrow and I'm wondering should i knock it back a bit on gallons changed? 75 gal tank, 24 tiger barbs

    Anything less than 50% per PWC doesn't make sense to me personally, regardless of your parameters.

    Agreed. Water changes aren't just about bringing nitrates down. They're also important for replenishing minerals in the tank.

    i will stick with 50%. thanks. i have some diatoms starting to group up or colonize or whatever they do. any suggestions on that? i will scrub my rocks and heater tomorrow

    set up just over 2 months ago

    yes i do have gravel. about 2"

    0-0-5 and ph 7.8. after i cycled i never had a problem with any parameters. always a constant 0-0-5

    Awesome! I would still do the regular water changes if only to keep your water properly mineralized:)
