Nitrate Disappeared??

So I was gone for a weem but my friend sent me constant updates about my tank levels for cycling, the last update she gave she said ammonia was 0.25ppm
Nitrite was 2 or 5ppm (its hard to tell tbh)
And Nitrate was 20ppm
Well I didnt deal with my tank on saturday (I got home early that morning) and I'm just doing it now and everything is at 0ppm??? What happened to the Nitrate??? About an inch of water has evaporated from the tank (its a 10 gallon) but I mean that shouldnt get rid of all of it right?

 

Following my levels on both my tanks are now nitrite 0 ammonia 0 and nitrates 0 it is odd

What filter media are you using? Some (like matrix) will reduce or get rid of nitrates completely after a few weeks.

Um none? I use sponge filters and I haven't used any cycle starters since the beginning? The only things I put in are pure ammonia and the stuff that gets rid of the chlorine

 

What test kit are you using? If it's the API test kit make sure you shake the nitrate bottle number 2 really really hard otherwise it will give false 0 readings

Using API test master kit and I shake it rapidly for at LEAST 30 secs

 

Perhaps your cycle has somehow been lost.

 

Have you had an ongoing ammonia source? Dosing ammonia once would not be enough.

Sorry - what has been going on for 2 months? Your cycling process? How much ammonia have you been adding and how often?

 

The cycling and I dose it up to max 2ppm (usually 1ppm though) whenever its almost at 0

 

Was the person testing your water also dosing the ammonia? Just trying to understand. I really hope you didn't lose your cycle. Have you redosed ammo is to 1 or 2 since starting this thread? What happened?
