im looking into a new all in one fertilizer. currently im using dustins fish tanks growth juice, but it has a huge clump of white fuzz thats growing the size of a tennis ball inside of it. that cant be good. on amazon im reading reviews about thrive c of people saying if they follow the directions it has killed lots of fish. are there any users of this product here with fish and some recommendations on dosing. it seems like it grows awesome plants but i dont want that at the cost of the fish. any other good all in one ferts?

I just got Thrive C in the mail today I’ll update you when I put it in the tank tomorrow! I’m doing just one pump though, the recommended is 4 for my 10 gallon but I’ve heard the spike in nitrates can harm fish and that at full dose it builds up without 50% water changes weekly which I don’t do.

Use less than adjust as needed is my plan

Every all-in-one is going to be pretty similar in terms of composition... I don't know why people think ThriveC killed their fish, it really shouldn't as there is nothing in any fertilizer that can kill fish. Nothing. Unless you dump like half a bottle in. Even regular Thrive, which is 2.56% N compared to ThriveC's 1.24%, only adds 6 ppm nitrate per dose. So ThriveC should only add around 3 ppm nitrate per dose, which is quite little. Note that one dose is several pumps depending on water volume, it's not 6 ppm per pump. Also there are plenty of planted tank keepers who keep their dosed nitrate around 40 ppm without any issue.

Anyways, the list of all-in-ones on the USA market is pretty short, but they really should be quite similar in composition: Thrive line, UNS Plant Food, Easy Green, Dustin's

Careful, the recommended dose is 2 pumps per 10 gallons once or twice a week. 4 at once probably wouldn't harm anything, but just making sure that was clear! Don't know if you meant for the entire week haha
ThriveC is already the dilute version of Thrive, so the recommended water change is 20-30% a week.

Thank you! I messed up my math. I know 5 gal per pump, I would’ve done the math like 50000000 times as I’m already nervous about adding new stuff to the tank, thank you for the catch!

Just an update I added 1 pump to my 10 gallon it’s been like an hour and everyone seems fine but I am still a nervous mom watching my fish closely lol

Thrive C does not raise nitrates as much as the others do.

I have been using thrive for years, I actually use it twice a week in my 4 tanks.

Plants grow like crazy

In my 125 I use 24 pumps twice a week, my nitrates do not go above 10-15

Your fish will be fine, you can add 2 pumps to a 10 gallon

Anyone in the Amazon comments section claiming Thrive killed their fish had other problems going on to begin with. Thrive ferts absolutely do not kill fish. Nor do any other aquarium fertilizers.

Question, my low tech tank is a 75g and around 50% planted, i just received my bottle of thrive c. i was wondering if i should start light, should i dose 50% twice a week or 100% once a week? The bottle recommends full dose 1-2 times a week. I was thinking ease into it. Thoughts

I see no reason to ease into it, but if it puts you at ease there isn't any harm either.
50% twice a week and 100% once a week end up putting the same amount of nutrients in. Plants do like their nutrients a bit more spread out, so perhaps 50% is the better option.

I think i will start with 50% twice a week. One right after a 50% water change then again 3 days later.
Once again, Thanks Mak

Another update: just for the heck of it, I tested my nitrates after using 50% the dose of Thrive C yesterday. They came out higher than ever, my normal is 20 after a week and right now it's 5 days in and somewhere between 20-40 (not 40 but definitely darker than 20) using the api liquid test kit and strips.

To ease my mind, what are the symptoms of too much nitrate in the tank? I always look to the fish to tell me if something's wrong.

I'm gonna add a slightly different perspective here: My tank is 10 gallons and very lightly stocked (one ADF, one betta, one nerite). Thrive didn't raise my nitrates enough for my plants (NO3 was 0ppm every time I tested, even while dosing thrive) and it added too many phosphates to my water (granted I never tested to see if there were trace amounts in my tap, but Thrive does contain phosphates). The lack of available nitrates and the abundance of phosphates caused my plants to starve and cyano to take over my tank. I fixed it by stopping dosing Thrive, buying KNO3 powder, and making my own fertilizer. Now I only dose that to make my NO3 10ppm throughout the week, and my plants are growing like crazy-- 1000x better than they were with the Thrive.

Not sure what I'm trying to say with this, except to just share my personal experience with Thrive.
